History of the University of Kansas School of Journalism
The William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications began in 1909 as the Department of Journalism under Chancellor Frank Strong. In 1944, the department changed its name to the William Allen White School of Journalism and Public Information, in honor of the famous editor and Emporia, Kansas native, William Allen White. The present name of the School was established in 1982.
