The majority of the letters (1913-1915) were wrttien by Grace's sister Carrie, a nurse at various hospitals in California, including the German Hospital in San Francisco. Barnabas Dorr Palmer personal papers

Overview The papers include (1) a testimony to his recent left-handness sworn before Douglas County Clerk in 1867, (2) a manuscript titled "A sketch of my military history" which he entered in a penmanship contest, sponsored by William Oland Bourne, editor of the "Soldier's Friend", (3) a letter from General U.S. Grant awarding Palmer first prize in the contest, and (4) letter awarding Palmer a $50 prize.

Overview Four glass plate negatives of varying sizes depicting basketball teams from unidentified high schools. Includes a 1917 sophomore team (logos on jerseys difficult to read); 1913-1914 juniors with a trophy (emulsion is flaking off plate); undated portrait (there appears to be an 8 on the basketball?); and the 1912-1913 S.J.H.S. team (plate is cracked in half). The teams are in various standing, seated, and kneeling poses and consist of 5-7 boys in uniform.

Baur family papers

Overview The Beals family papers are those of the donor's mother, Lenore Beals Haines, and maternal grandmother Estella Kerr (Mrs. Frank) Beals of Argonia (Sumner County), Kansas. The papers contain Argonia high school and organizational records and photographs dating from the 1920s, as well as local histories and visitors' guides. A club year book from Frank and Stella Beals' later residency in Anthony (Harper County), Kansas is included.

Ben Hibbs papers

Overview Ben Hibbs was born in Fontana, Kansas in 1901. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism in 1923. He then edited several Kansas newspapers before becoming an editor at the Saturday Evening Post and then Reader's Digest. He was a friend of former President Dwight Eisenhower and edited his writings. Hibbs died in 1975 of leukemia. This collection of his papers contains correspondence, manuscripts, periodicals, writing samples, academic documents, and photographs.

Overview A typed transcription of a diary kept by Benjamin Ladd Wiley on his march from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to Santa Fe, New Mexico, with the First Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Company. The diary covers a period during the Mexican-American War, from July 6 through December 22, 1847. In his daily entries, Wiley notes the number of miles traveled that day, quality of the camping site, and weather conditions.
