Overview

This collection includes a blueprint of a cabin fireplace with detailed instructions on how to construct the fireplace and flue to efficiently direct smoke away. These items were included in an envelope directed to James H. Stewart, one of the founding members of the Wichita Bibliophiles, a small group of book collectors formed in 1932 in Wichita, Kansas. No other correspondence was found with the instructions to indicate from whom the blueprints were received.

Bourbon family postcards

The Bourbon family collection consists of five “real photo” postcards sent between relatives in Kansas City, Mo. and Beloit, Kan. in 1906 and 1907. In addition to family news, the postcards mention photography and developing images on the postcard stock, a large prairie fire in western Kansas, a local explosion in Kansas City, and a photo of Swope Park in Kansas City.

Sixty-five programs dated 1915 to 1925 are from Lawrence's Bowersock Opera House, which later became Bowersock Theatere. An 1890 program is from its predecessor, Liberty Hall.

Brenna Buchanan's research on La Yarda

This collection contains research about La Yarda and the role it played in the establishment of the Mexican-American community in Lawrence, Kansas, conducted by Brenna Buchanan for a project when a University of Kansas architecture student.
