Biography

1884: Founded as the United States Indian Industrial Training School. 1887: Name changed to Haskell Institute. 1970: Haskell developed into a junior college and changed its name to Haskell Indian Junior College. 1993: The Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, Ada Deer, approved the plan, and the institution was renamed as Haskell Indian Nations University.

The Thelma Haverty collection includes student essays about Native American personalities, written in March 1964. Thelma Haverty was a business instructor at Haskell Indian Nations University, then still the Haskell Institute, and compiled this collection from her 1964 second year Business English students.
