The Willow was originally founded in 1976 by a collective of volunteers as the Women’s Transitional Care Center (WTCC). The WTCC was officially founded as a 501(c)3 the following year in 1977. It was the first domestic violence agency in Kansas. The WTCC provided support and homes to help people fleeing domestic violence. In 2010, the WTCC changed its name to the Willow Domestic Violence Center (WDVC). The WDVC serves Douglas, Franklin, and Jefferson counties with a standing staff of over 30 in addition to many volunteers. It provides 90-day emergency shelter to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, among other services.
