This collection consists of materials related to Clenece Hills' teaching career, as well as her interests and activities in the Lawrence, Kansas community. The collection also includes family and genealogical information, information from when her husband James was faculty adviser to the Haskell Indian Nations University student newspaper, and information from Mildred Seaman.

This collection contains 73 letters, the bulk of which were written to Richard Henry Roberts by members of his family during the Civil War. There are also miscellaneous manuscripts written by and to Emily Swan before her marriage to Richard Henry Roberts.
