Biography

Alexander L. Boyle, Jr. was born in Washington, New Jersey on February 19, 1926. He married Marion Frances Brown in 1948. Boyle attended Syracuse University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1950. He earned his Master's degree at the University of Kansas in 1956. Boyle taught in the Design Department at KU from 1953 to his retirement in 1992. His children include Sharon Boyle, Susan Boyle, Eileen Wirth, Caroline Wilten, Christopher Boyle, and Kevin Boyle. He died in Lawrence on July 4, 2006.

Overview

Alexander Boyle taught in the design department at the University of Kansas from 1953-1992. The collection includes items in various stages of creation and reproduction from Boyle's art. Boyle's focuses were birds in wildlife, traditional Aztec/Mesoamerican art, and buildings on the campus of the University of Kansas. His works depicting the Campanile and old Fraser Hall are included.
