Grier taught English at the University of Kansas from 1951-1984. This collection contains information about Walt Whitman's Notes and unpublished prose manuscripts, edited by Grier, and some personal papers, including notably records surrounding his death.

This collection of Ashland, Kansas native Ronald Johnson's papers reflects his literary and professional writing activities, containing poetry, galley proofs of poetry books, recipes, and proofs for cookbooks. It also contains personal letters from friends, including poet Jonathan Williams and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay.

Overview Walt Whitman (1819-1892) wrote drafts and jottings in notebooks which (or leaves from which) were collected by various people. A large group (the Thomas B. Harned Collection) went to the Library of Congress (LC); ten of those notebooks (LC numbers 80, 84, 86-89, 94, 101, 111, 220) were lost in the 1940s.
