Overview Gail J. Hamilton was one of twelve students involved in the "KU Twelve Incident." During the commencement ceremony on May 19, 1980, twelve members of the Academic Freedom Action Coalition displayed a banner protesting the University of Kansas' policy prohibiting the display of banners in certain public spaces.
