Biography
Jan Chiapusso was born at Gemou, near Semarang, in the Dutch East Indies (now Java, Indonesia), on February 2, 1890. He graduated from the Cologne Conservatory in 1911 and came to the United States in 1916.
Chiapusso first headed the Piano Department at the Bush Conservatory in Chicago from 1921-1931, and was a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Chicago from 1932-1934 before moving to Lawrence, Kansas. From 1934 to 1939, he served as Associate Professor of Piano at the University of Kansas, at which point he was promoted to full Professor.
On June 19, 1934, Jan Chiapusso married Beulah C. Hollingsworth, a soprano and music instructor. By 1960, Chiapusso had retired from teaching. He died on August 21, 1969, in Lawrence, Kansas.

Personal papers of Jan Chiapusso
Jan Chiapusso taught piano in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Kansas from 1934-1960. His collection of personal papers includes primarily personal letters and business correspondence, manuscript pages for his book on 18th century composer Johann Sebastian Bach, photographs, research, publicity materials, sheet music, and clippings from magazines and newspapers.
