Biography
Hester Elizabeth Buell was born February 1, 1900 at Blue Rapids, Kansas to Ernest and Virgie (Foose) Buell. The family lived in Ottawa County, Kansas in Hester's early years and then moved to Glascow, Missouri, where Hester graduated from high school. Hester attended the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and the University of Missouri. In 1933, she earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas. After teaching school for several years, Hester returned to Ottawa County, where she lived at Tescott the remainder of her life. She was a prolific writer, whose many poems were widely published. She died December 29, 1993 and was buried in Tescott's Franklin Cemetery.

Florence Lydia Snow papers
Florence Snow (1861-1955) was a poet and author who lived most of her life in Kansas. These papers include her journals and notebooks, correspondence, poems and other writings, public proofs and notes, studies of the human hand, Snow's obituary along with images of her, and some family history.
Hester Buell papers
This collection contains the many poems and other writings of Tescott, Kansas librarian Hester Buell (1900-1993), which include her remembrances and memorabilia of her brother Harold and sister Helen. Within the collection correspondence are Miss Buell's letters from Wint Smith (U.S. Congressman from Kansas, 1947-1961).
