Biography

Born around 1868, John Cottrell graduated from Marysville High School in 1885. He taught in Marshall County until 1891. He then began to spend his time as a farmer with his brother, which he continued to do until his death. On top of his farming business, Cottrell helped establish the Irving State Bank in 1916 and was its president. He was also president of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company starting in 1925. Cottrell married Lydia Jane Bentley (1883-1974) in 1899, and had two children, Lillian (1900-1996) and Roger (1902-1948). John Cottrell died in 1945.
