Biography

William Ayers was a Private and Private First Class of the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Florida; Tulsa, OK; and Texas before reaching a permanent base at Liberal Army Air Field in Liberal, KS in August 1943. He serviced and repaired planes that landed at the base. In 1945, he served in Osaka, Japan.

This collection contains correspondence written by Private First Class William J. Ayers to his mother, Mrs. B. F. Ayers, throughout his military service during World War II. Several letters written by Private Henry Bockman and Private First Class Frederick Granberg to Mrs. Ayers are also included, as well as letters written to and from William Ayers' brother George.
