Biography

Wilmer A. Linkugel was born on January 12, 1929 in Bremen, Kansas. He attended the University of Nebraska, earning his B.A. in 1953 and his M.A. in 1954. He earned his Ph.D. in 1960 from the University of Wisconsin. Linkugel was a Speech and Communication professor at the University of Kansas from 1956-1999. He was a member of the Speech Communication Association and received two awards for excellence in teaching. Linkugel was also a member of many professional organizations, including the Central States Communication Association and the Kansas Speech Association. He was the inaugural inductee to Central States Communication Association Hall of Fame, as well as receiving the Outstanding College Speech Teacher Award. He married Helen Motyka in 1958 and had two daughters, LeAnn Linkugel Ward and Kristin Linkugel. Wilmer Linkugel died on May 10, 2012.
