Leroy Towns files, 1975 - 1978
Scope and Contents
Leroy Towns served as Governor Bennett's press secretary for the entire four year term and was responsible for the series of press releases and issue files that emanated from the governor's office. Needing to be informed constantly on daily actions and occurrences, Towns maintained a personal office file of information about subjects and persons that could come up in the news. The files are alphabetically arranged by subject, and run in chronological... order within each file folder.
The balance of the information appears to be from 1975-1976, presumably because Towns soon discontinued collecting information on subjects seldom treated in the news, because of his access to general governor's office files, and because of his own growth of knowledge on issues and facts. These files, although helpful, should be used after a perusal of the general files and press releases. They are often photocopied duplicates of other series files.
