Press clippings, 1975 - 1979
Scope and Contents
This series consists of 27 boxes of mounted-on-letter-size newspaper and magazine articles, mostly from Kansas, that were clipped daily from the press during Bennett's years as governor. Leroy Towns and several office assistants kept a more or less up-to-date sequence of stapled sets of articles.
This series is chronological, with the article date and newspaper title on each page. Usually editorials were separated from news stories. The researcher, when attempting to focus in on a specific date or time period, is advised to also search several days on either side (usually 2 weeks is safe) to be sure that the governor's office did not staple together a lump sum of dates.
All topics affecting the governor's office are collected, and the general order has been retained. Folders contain anywhere from 2 to 5 days of articles on the average. This is a useful research tool to see how various programs and acts were perceived around the state, and should be used in conjunction with the press releases and speeches.
