Scope and Contents

This series is the largest of the Cooper family papers. Letters in the series contain letters to Emma Cooper, and to her family. The educational records focus mainly on Cooper's time at Emporia State University and Washburn University. The professional records related to Cooper's positions at the Kansas Vocational School; at Topeka's Monroe School; and at the Topeka State Hospital. Most of the organizational records relate to Cooper's involvement in the Eastern Star, though some relate to Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, and various teacher's associations. The personal records include biographical information, Cooper's birth and death certificates and obituary, various programs, clippings, memorabilia, and personal "books" (diary, address, and telephone books).
