Scope and Contents

This series contains materials about Harkness's work in aging advocacy as well as her work in community organizations, such as the Rebekah Assembly, the American Baptist Church, the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, and Republican Party clubs and organizations. Aging organizations represented in this series include the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging (JAAA), the National Silver Haired Congress (NSHC), the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Kansas Department on Aging (KDOA), the Aging Forum, the Southwest Kansas Area Agency of Aging (SWKAAA), and Douglas County Senior Services.

Series includes material regarding such aging issues as social security, Medicare, insurance, healthcare, and guardianship. There is also personal material, phone directories, and reference materials used in a research project on Kansas history.

Processing Information

With adding the 2002 addition to collection, Spencer Library staff removed original collection material from unmarked binders and placed papers in folders. Collection material was refoldered and labeled.
