General
Authorship and Dating: Note [by P.S. O'Hegarty?] on first page: "Alice Milligan's Sketch Book. The writing on the few sketches that have writing is hers." Some of the landscape sketches are dated, all in the period February- May 1891. During 1891 Alice Milligan was living in Dublin, and identified landscape sketches are from that area.. A rough portrait sketch in pencil shows the bust of a man wearing a hat; although unidentified, it closely resembles (in reverse) a more finished pen-and-ink sketch of the Irish politician, Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-1891), that she drew in her diary after seeing him on June 7, 1891 (see Sheila Turner Johnson, Alice: A Life of Alice Milligan, Omagh: Colourpoint Press, 1994), p.51).
