Covers continuation of voyage to Java November 3-January 21, and (from p. 42) description of Batavia; detailed description of the Mangosteen, Oxyoides, Calappus and Cocotier; tropical botany; Javanese plants; monsoons, etc; Javanese customs and inhabitants; continuation of voyage in March and May 1721. Breaks off at foot of page (with catchword) while discussing tea plant. Footnote on p. 53 notes that Garcin well deserved the honour botanists paid him in naming the Mangosteen after him. [Who, then, is responsible for this text? an editor?]
