Scope and Contents
Tufts' diary for 1878 is devoted entirely to his work as assistant engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad. His daily activity is described along with any expenses he incurred. To a large extent he is involved in the surveying for new track and the laying and maintenance of tracks. Very little of his personal life is mentioned.
