Scope and Contents

Letterpress books containing copies of the outgoing correspondence of Freeling Tufts. His business activities included serving as the receiver for the Kansas Trust and Banking Company of Atchison, Kan., administrator of the William G. Harvey estate of Kansas City, Mo., and numerous other real estate and mortgage enterprises.

The letterpress books also contain some of Tufts' personal correspondence. Generally these letters are to members of his family and also include references to business and financial matters.

There are 3 series of letterpress books. The first series, dating 1891-1906, contains letters written by Tufts from his Kansas City office. The second series, dating 1893-1896, contains letters written to correspondents in the east, such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc. The third series, dating 1894-1895, contains letters written to correspondents in Kansas. In the second and third sets of volumes Tufts is writing as the receiver for the Kansas Trust and Banking Company.
