Murdock Pemberton materials, circa 1910-1970

 Series

Scope and Contents

This series includes manuscript drafts, published items, newspaper and magazine articles, playbills and programs, correspondence, and other related materials written by or about Murdock Pemberton. The series notably includes an unpublished autobiographical novel, information from and about his musical Sing High Sing Low, and correspondence with an array of artists. There is also information in this series regarding Pemberton's second wife, ballerina Frances Mann.

The series includes both original items and photocopies, as well as annotations and relevant reference material gathered by Sally Pemberton while conducting her research on her grandfather. Much of the physical arrangement of the material in this series stems from Sally Pemberton's organization; folder titles frequently reflect how she described the material found within, or how Murdock Pemberton originally filed the material.

Oversize materials, including photographs and clippings about Pemberton, have been separated from the main collection and are described at the end of this series.
