Educational Practice
Scope and Contents
Kris Ehling was an educator with the Wichita Public Schools from January 1989 to May 2019. This series, approximately half of the collection, includes materials from his various postings at John Marshall Middle School, Stucky Middle School, Robinson Middle School, and Wichita Heights High School. It includes administrative records from the schools and school district as well as materials specifically related to Ehling's teaching.
Ehling has also been heavily involved in staff development efforts and issues surrounding students with developmental disabilities; materials in this series reflect these educational efforts. Additionally, there is material related to Ehling's oversight of cooperative education students in Wichita State University's teaching degree program working at Wichita Public Schools, as well as records related to his teaching in that program.
Types of materials in this series include agendas and meeting minutes for leadership and planning meetings; copies of PowerPoints and other presentation materials and notes; reference materials and news articles on related topics; correspondence; feedback about professional development sessions; notes from workshops attended or given by Ehling; copies of educational standards; checklists, sample forms, graphics, organizers, and other example materials; data from Wichita Public Schools/Unified School District (USD) 259; human relations information regarding employment with USD 259; and other related materials.
Loose groupings of materials found in boxes during processing have been grouped together by theme; some effort has been made to physically pull together some like materials, particularly those related to Ehling's work as a Multi-Tier Systems of Support (MTSS) facilitator or his advocacy efforts against the use of seclusion and restraint to discipline disruptive behavior in the classroom. However, materials related to any given topic may be scattered across this series and researchers may need to review materials in several boxes.
