The Eloísa G. De Lorenzo prize is named after Dr. de Lorenzo, clinical psychologist and advocate for individuals with disabilities. She was President of the InterAmerican Council on Education and of the International League of Societies for the Mentally Handicapped. The Prize was created in 1988 by the Organization of American States (OAS) and KU's Beach Center for scientific contributions to the special education field.
The Instituto Interamericano del Niño, or iin, is an Inter-American Institute for Children and Adolescents founded in the 1920s and initially including the countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, the U.S., Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuala. The Institute joined the OAS as a specialized organization in 1949.
