This series consists of mostly incoming correspondence, both typed and handwritten letters and postcards, sent to Johnson from friends and literary acquiantances. Items that came with letters--photographs, clippings, etc.--remain with the correspondence. It has been organized alphabetically by correspondent's family name; correspondence from individuals who did not sign their family name, or whose signature is illegible or absent, has been placed at the end of the series, along with outgoing correspondence and correspondence drafts from Johnson. Undated letters have not been noted separately in the date ranges provided for each correspondent.
