Meatpacking

 Series

Scope and Contents

Stull's research into the ongoing community stresses brought on by the addition of large scale meatpacking facilities to rural towns made him a frequent advisor to prospective host sites and to legislative bodies on relevant community development legislation. Research over the course of decades, in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky, included issues of workplace safety, environmental degradation, ethnic violence, challenges to public school staffing, housing shortages, and monopolistic suppression of economic opportunities for meat producers. Material in this series relates to Stull's consulting and advising activities and to articles and books he published on these topics, including Slaughterhouse Blues.
