This series is comprised of three subseries: Major Writings, Other Writings, and Story Ideas. Major Writings has been further sub-divided to group materials related to different themes in Rhodes's writing, such as the history of World War II and the nuclear bomb; other investigative research work Rhodes wrote about; fiction; and other broad topics and types of writing.

In Major Writings are papers for twelve of Rhodes's books for which related material is extensive. In Other Writings are Rhodes's articles and books for which materials are lesser in quantity. Arrangement is by title, subarranged by type of material or medium (e.g. writing proposals, promotional material, research materials, manuscripts, galleys, published works, reviews, audio books, television and motion picture scripts, publicity/book tours, and financial records).

The Story Ideas subseries contains mostly undated research material regarding Rhodes's wide-ranging subject interests, including story ideas not reflected in the collection's manuscripts or published works.
