"This shows the old examination halls in Nanking, China where every applicant for a government job had to pass an examination. Chinese friends have stated that the examinations were not easy. Thorough knowledge of literature and of history of China was essential. The applicant was locked in the cubicle and ordered not come out until he had completed his writings, sometimes a day or two."
