Oklahoma and Native American postcards, 1889 - 1908

 Series
Call Number: RH PH 4

Scope and Contents

This series includes 184 photogaphs of street scences and principal buildings in various Oklahoma towns, generally collected in 1908. Photographs of Native Americans are often studio portraits with the subjects invariably dressed in traditional tribal attire. Most of the individuals in the postcards are unidentified indiviually, but they are often identified by tribe. The Osage tribe is predominantly represented in the photographs, although there is a color portrait of Geronimo, the Apache war chief.
