Scope and Contents
Elizabeth Schultz's 'Personal Documents' series consists of folders compiled and labelled by Schultz, the contents of which relate to her professional life at KU, her post-retirement work, and her personal life.
Professional subjects include Schultz's sabbatical; KU committees; KU Department of English; exhibitions; Schultz's China and Japan Fullbright scholarships; grants; awards; department evaluations; retirement; her work on Moby-Dick essays, books, classes, and related exhibitions; conference materials; correspondence with poet Robert Wallace; preparatory notes and exams for classes taught on 19th-century American women writers, 19th-century British novels, 19th-century American novels, African American women writers, American women's literature, Japanese and Western literature, freshman and sophomore English. There is also a small amount of material related to the February Sisters and more generally equity for women in academia.
Post-retirement subjects include poetry presentations and projects; the Elizabeth Schultz Environmental Fund; literacy; philanthropic projects; the Lucy Schultz Fund; and publications including The Nature of Kansas Lands, Her Voice, and Shoreline: Seasons at the Lake.
Personal subjects include her parents, brother, and nieces; photographs; correspondence with individuals met during her Chinese and Japanese Fullbright scholarships; Quaker and peace activities; PhD thesis; CVs; and friends' eulogies and introductions.
