This series of Charles Marshall's papers contains seven sub-series. Documents pertaining to Marshall's private architectural practice as well as some earlier work as State Architect are held in the "Working documents, contracts, shop drawings, and specifications" and "Professional correspondence and ephemera" sub-series. The "Personal correspondence and journals" sub-series includes letters and personal journals kept by Marshall. "Paintings and drawings" and "Sketchbooks and art-related correspondence" relate to Marshall's interest and activity in fine arts. The "Art and architecture reference materials" sub-series includes primarily magazine and newspaper clippings compiled by Marshall that served as reference materials for both his architectural and artistic endeavors.
