Journals, 1957 - 2015
Scope and Contents
Irby often inserted correspondence, newsclippings, ticket stubs, exhibit flyers, photographs, and leaves or flowers in his journals as well as include small illustrations around his dated entries. All insertions have been kept as he made them. An attempt has been made to photocopy post-it sticky notes to document their original placement in case they fall off. The photocopy is placed in a folder behind the journal. Organic material, such as leaves and flowers, have been placed in an archival envelope and reinserted in the original location. It is possible that some sticky notes or leaves and flowers have been overlooked during processing and have not been photocopied or placed in an envelope.
Irby dated most of the journals and provides titles for some of his journals. In 1984, Irby started to number his journals, starting with the number 15 (assigning two journals with the number 15). In 2009, he started a new numbering system while continuing with his old system (so those journals have two numbers). Any titles he supplied have been noted in quotations in the finding aid. The journal titles not in quotations (a physical description or other identifying information from the volume) have been assigned by a processor while processing the collection.
