Scope and Contents
Financial records of an officer of East India Company vessels trading to India and China, regarding personal expenses, mess expenses, and private trade. Includes itemised bills, account-books, bonds, wills, powers of attorney, correspondence; and papers concerning winding up his estate by his heir, Edward Turnour, 1st Earl of Winterton.
Pen trials on Account-book B include sator-arepo magic square, reversible chump. Accounts may be in sterling, dollars, rupees, or other currencies. Special forms for seaman's will and power of attorney located at folder 1:1, folder 2:1-2.

Biography of Robert Walpole, mariner
According to the records available in this collection, Walpole was a 5th mate on the ship Harcourt in 1769. He was promoted to 4th mate on the ship Granby in 1771, and in 1773 he was 3rd mate for the ship Asia. Walpole drowned in the Bengal River in September 1774.
