Scope and Contents

Report of negotiations with Nawab Nasir Jang (the son of the Nizam of the Deccan) influencing him to send troops to defend the English in Fort St. David (south of Madras) against the French. Addressed to "You, Sir" in Fort St. David; negotiators called "the Embassadors of the English"; writer conceivably Boundla Mootal.

Covers many days of accompanying the Nawab in his progress. Written in the first person plural. Particular account of negotiations with the sons of Anwar-ud-din Khan (Nawab of the Carnatic [or Arcot] ): Muhammad Ali and Mafauz Khan.

Text ends on p [17]; pp [19-21]: "Translate of a Pherimaund [farman] of Nabob Nausir Jung to Aneuordean Cawn Soobah of Arcott...; Translates of Pherimaunds to the Undermentiond Kelleyders Pollygars &c...; Translate of a Pirwana from Nabob Abdul Nabee Cawn to Mahcumood Cawn... Mootal is one of my particular friends & I order you to keep up a good friendship with him."

The item is dated after Nov 1746 because Mafauz Khan's defeat at St Thome past (Malleson p 194). News received during the negotiations of the death of Thomas cully Cawn (i.e. Nadir Shah, d. June 9, 1747, Orme I:122), before June 1748 when the Nizam died (Malleson p 234).

WRITER: "Mootal" is mentioned at the end of a document on p. 21; Mill v.III, p. 75, discussing 1747 : "Another [agent of the English], Boondla Mootal, informed them that if they expected...assistance from Anwar ad din,.." Tenuous; but "Ross's Appendix" 'see Mill 111:63) should be checked.
