General

Begins "To the Right Honorable the Lords Spiritual and Temporal..."

Petition against proposed renewal of the Company's charter with an extension of the import trade to the Out-Ports, praying that the trade to and from India and China may be continued exclusively to the Port of London. Makes 11 points, including: The connection must not he destroyed between the Company's Government and its Trade; The Company's interests are interwoven with the political and commercial system of the British Empire: extreme danger will arise to the Constitution if the Indian Patronage is transferred to the Crown; the Docks. would suffer economically if this trade were to go to the Out-Ports [i.e. to any English port that is not London].

Signed by Henry Woodthorpe [town clerk of London, 1825-1842].

Endorsed as a petition of the Lord Mayor, Aldermen and Commons of the City of London in Common Council Assembled praying to be heard by Counsel in favor of the East India Company's Charter. 12 February 1813. Presented and read And Ordered to lie on the Table signed in the usual Manner. One leaf, folded, parchment, endorsed.
