Newspaper and magazine clippings, 1894 - 1999

 Series

Scope and Contents

Katherine Goldsmith accumulated an extensive collection of newspaper and magazine clippings, mostly from local publications such as the Kansas City Star and the Kansas City Times, dating from the early 20th century through the 1990s, arranged alphabetically by subject matter. While the clippings relate almost exclusively to Kansas City area history, the span of topics addressed in the collection is extremely broad. However, particular collecting strengths include urban development, city planning, railroads, industry, and Pendergast-era history. The extent of Goldsmith's collection of clippings relating to the African American experience in the Kansas City area merits its own sub-series.

Please note that unless explicitly stated otherwise, all files relate to issues in the Kansas City area specifically. While all folders in this series include newspaper and/or magazine clippings, if other materials are also present--for example photographs, correspondence, ephemera, etc.--this is typically noted in the finding aid.

Materials have been physically separated according to size and are located at RH MS Q454, RH MS R452, RH MS R453, and RH MS 1093. Similar topics may therefore appear at multiple locations. Multiple topics may have been grouped together in a single folder if there was only one or two clippings related to that topic.
