Correspondence, primarily from Davis's time in Chicago. Includes a letter to Davis from Alain Locke about Southside Writers Group and racial issues; a letter to Stanley Burnshaw from Davis; a letter from Langston Hughes about 47th Street; correspondence with Herbert Weinstock and James A. Decker about manuscript rejections; poem titled "Chicago - In Sepia Ink" addressed to Davis and signed "Frances"; letter from Eleanor Archer accompanied by small portrait of Archer; rejection letters from publishers; letter from Edward C. Aswell about promotion of Black Boy by Richard Wright; letters from readers and poetry reading attendees; request from Nick Aaron Ford to reprint Davis poetry; and a letter from W. C. Handy about the history of his Band of Memphis. Also includes a "Report to Our Sponsors" by the National Committee to Combat Anti-Semitism, of which Davis was a member, and a handwritten introduction and short autobiography for a poetry reading by Davis.
