Personal Papers, 1904 - 1982
Scope and Contents
This series contains records of Foresman family history, Mrs. Spencer's personal correspondence with friends and family members, travel itineraries, passports, souvenirs, datebooks of daily appointments, newspaper and magazine articles concerning Mrs. Spencer, and records related to her residences, memberships, guest entertainment, art and antique dealers, art exhibitions, charitable gifts made independent of the Spencer Foundation, and loans of personal property for exhibition purposes. The series contains correspondence and other documents relating to Mrs. Spencer's honors and awards, including unframed certificates. Series correspondence dates chiefly from 1960 and consists largely of incoming items. Arrangement is chiefly chronological, subarranged alphabetically by correspondent surname. Separate folders identify Mrs. Spencer's more substantial correspondence with artist John Koch, with her friend Mary Morley Crapo Hyde (Viscountess Eccles), and with administrative assistant M. Anne Reilly. Two posthumous tributes to Mrs. Spencer are in an oversize box located at RH MS Q302.
