Custodial History
Whitman was guest of Judge Usher of Lawrence, September 15-16, 1879. He presented this photograph to Usher's son, J.P. Usher, Jr, who presented it to Ruth Jane Garver on February 4, 1925. Miss Garver (now Ruth Gagliardo) gave it to the University of Kansas Libraries on April 13, 1969.
