"Dutch" windmill, 1887 - 1931

Scope and Contents

This series comprises photographs and artistic renderings of the Dutch-style windmill formerly located on West Ninth Street in Lawrence. The original windmill was built in 1863 and was destroyed in Quantrill's Raid. The windmill was rebuilt in 1864, and was used for milling flour and cornmeal until 1885. It was destroyed by a fire in 1905.
