Autograph letter signed, 4 pages, written from Craigenputtock. Describes conditions of the Carlyles shortly after arrival at the farm; financial difficulties; philosopical reminiscences.
Item 2 in the same folder is sealed, 1 page (1 sheet) to a "Professor Wilson" according to the address page (addressed to "My dear sir" in the letter) from 21. [Cowley or Comley] Bank. Carlyle writes that he has had a cold and has not been outdoors; he plans to visit the recipient as soon as he is able.
