Mostly paper and film positive copies of maps from a variety of institutions that Smith requested be duplicated for his research. Institutions include the British Library, Bodleian Library at Oxford University, Bibliotheque Nationale at Paris, and the Houghton Library, among others. Also includes some correspondence and reproduction requests related to these items, as well as some lithographic commercial prints, all of which Smith had left in the Geography Department when he retired from the University of Kansas.

These materials supplement what was already in the collection. The materials in this addition remain mostly grouped as they were; there were some loose map copies that have been grouped topically or by the institution from which they were copied. When materials have been separated from each other--typically either due to size or to keep film copies separate from paper prints--this has been noted in the finding aid. The copies mostly appear to have been made in the 1970s, based on information on some of the original enclosures and on the little correspondence found with this addition.
