"The Notorious Benders" compiled for the Cherryvale Centennial Committee by Eleanor Rorick and "The Bloody Benders" by Thelma S. Martin, February 1976. Both concern John and Kate Bender and their children, who settled in Labette County, Kansas in the 1870s and proceeded to kill several visitors passing by their home.
