Papers, 1940 - 1976
Scope and Contents
The collection of correspondence, newsletters, pamphlets, photographs, and newspaper clippings follow H.J. Yount's work in organized labor from 1944 to 1976. The bulk of the material concerns the politics of organized labor in Kansas between 1954 and 1965. The collection includes official correspondence and labor meeting minutes of H.J. Yount, most of it from 1958 through 1965, some financial records of the KSIUC, and a narrative of early U.A.W. organizing in the Midwest, by Carl Stevens.
Also included are printed minutes of KSIUC and other labor conventions between 1940 and 1967, KSIUC newsletters running from 1955 to 1967, and an extensive file of newspaper clippings. Over 300 photographs cover formal union meetings and informal union activities such as talent contests and softball games. There are also a number of photographs of damage from the 1951 flood, taken during union relief work.
