Chico State College Union Building master plan, 1960 - 1973
Scope and Contents
Records related to the project to design and build the Chico State College Union Building in Chico, California (renamed as California State University-Chico in 1972) constitute a major portion of Don Hatch's papers. Construction began in 1967 and included spaces for a bookstore, food service area, meeting rooms, etc. Unusually, students and faculty were heavily involved in the planning process, and student association fees were used for construction costs, in addition to a loan from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Project records include invoices and receipts, correspondence, technical specifications, reports, photographs of renderings and of completed work, bids, proposals, contracts between architect and owner and between architect and contractors, cost estimates, handwritten notes, change orders, legal documents, etc. The project number was #6322, and James E. Roberts Company served as the main contractor.
