General

"Millais dead: his character [John Everett Millais (1829-1896)]. I benefited him by opposing his tendency to say 'the public like the easiest treatment best.' His technique. I value his requesting me for a pallbearer. Deathbed anecdote: when the Marchioness of Lorne [Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll and artist daughter of Queen Victoria (1848-1939] was sitting with him he wrote on the slate 'I should like the Queen to see my wife'; she did." On mourning paper (thin border), 4 pages (1 piece).
