Notecards pertaining to Elizabeth Layton, date of quotes: 1898-1982
Scope and Contents
This series consists of index cards arranged into subjects with information on Elizabeth Layton, her artwork, her family, her father Asa Converse, and the Wellsville Globe. Lynn Bretz compiled the notecards to organize material probably for writing the book Through the Looking Glass: Drawings by Elizabeth Layton. Bretz interviewed Elizabeth Layton under the auspices of a Kansas Arts Commission grant in 1982-1983.* The questions, along with Layton's answers, were printed onto paper and then adhered to index cards, organized by subject. Alternatively, information taken from Layton's correspondence, the Wellsville Globe, or Asa Converse's diary was typed onto cards. In most cases, Bretz included the source of the information on the card. Titles in quotations were Bretz' card titles. Titles not in quotations were devised while processing the collection.
