Francis Sporting Goods opened in downtown Lawrence, Kansas in 1947 and was run by Gilbert and George Francis for several decades. Carol and Goerge Francis' son Jon also ran the store until they closed the retail space at 731 Massachusetts Street in 2014 in order to focus on selling athletic uniforms and equipment to teams.
