General

Exeter, Devon. Letter to Arthur More [sic], Aulnage Office. Mr. Townsend says his friend in London is distressed by his serges being seized, but refuses to pay; the serge farmers here complain of our oppression and illegal exaction; serge prices. Send more seals by Sim Moris' ship just leaving London. Last post at our Coffee house I met Ralph Butler, a young man belonging to the Exchequer; he gives details of economic dangers to nonconformists and I pass them on. Inquire for him at the Treasurers remembrance office in the new buildings. Advise with Mr. Eyles what may be the cheapest way to cleere a man out of the Exchequer to prevent future inconvenience. Enclose Mr. Eyles articles [no enclosure with materials at Spencer]; what have I paid into the Office this year?
